  • Modeling a Porsche 911 GT3 RS – part 02
    Blender Cookie - 2009-12-19 22:45:23

In this multi-part tutorial we are going to be taking a close look at how to model a Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Due to the nature of the car the tutorial encompasses a lot of techniques from both organic modeling and hard-body modeling styles. A particular emphasis is placed on creating good topology that will [...]

  • Happy Holidays! 2010 is going to be a big year for Project London!
    Phil McCoy's Posts - Project London - 2009-12-19 22:42:09

Thank you everyone for your support. We are looking forward to 2010 as the year that Project London is unleashed on an unsuspecting planet. To prepare ourselves for the onslaught, and to enjoy a bit of the holidays, we're going to take a break from blogging through the holidays.

However, we will continue to work on the film and Ian will recap our progress in his next post right around January 7, 2010. In the meantime, we are preparing a new issue of our sometimes monthly email newsletter. If you don't get this, I recommend that you signup for it.

There's a couple other things you can do for us, if you don't mind. First, we are compiling a list of blogs and entertainment news sites that we should contact with press releases. Would you mind telling us who you think should be on our list? And second, if you have any links pointing to www.projectlondon.net as the movie site, would you kindly change them to point to the official site for the film, www.projectlondonmovie.com? Thank you!

    Happy Holidays!

  • The Producer’s Report #97 - One Big Fail
    Phil McCoy's Posts - Project London - 2009-12-19 18:00:00

This week smelled like something that had been dead for about three and a half years. Lie. I was utterly repulsed by what I saw today, and I no longer have any faith in this project. Lie. I wish to assault physically the last three years. But that's an intangible object. So I'm taking it to the streets. Lie.

Hey, just shaking it up a bit today. The truth is, I'm "over the moon" about all that's happening.

    Here are the stats:

Status of Visual Effects (VFX) Shots:
Number remaining: 39 (LESS THAN 40 Woot!)
    Number in progress: 4 (Wow that's 10%!)
    Number completed: 580
Percentage remaining: 6.3% (That's a full percentage point in a week! Huzzah!)
Total VFX: 650 (a bunch were completed before we started tracking them)

Doom: "Maniacal Laughter" (calculated by Ian)

Projected date for completion of all VFX:
26 January 2010 (based on projected time estimates of all tasks)
8 February 2010 (based on spreadsheet items completed per week)

    This week’s recommendations:
Ian: "Brick" It's a good film.
Jen: "My Life Would Suck Without You" by Kelly Clarkson. Because it's a profound statement of affection.
Nate: "The Wretched" by Nine Inch Nails. Classic NIN - intense.
Phil: The "Assault Girls" trailer. This looks like fun!

    Cheers,

    Phil McCoy, Executive Producer

  • Tutorial for painting a gimp gallery spaceship.
    Starbright Illustrations (blog) - 2009-12-19 03:17:53

    Wow a nebula!

I’m painting a spaceship, in GIMP, and you can look over my shoulder and see how it’s done if you like. When it’s finally done I might even add it to my User account | gimp gallery. I just found this gallery on the Internet today and I’m having a look around to see if I like it.

The cygnus loop, without spaceship. So to start with I got hold of a grainy old free and open source NASA image of a nebula. It’s a bit flat, low resolution and it has some creases on it where more than one photo was stitched together by NASA to produce the final image, but through the magic of GIMP I’m sure we can get it looking pretty good.

here's the bare bones Next I added a layer above the background so that I could start drawing a basic spaceship shape without disturbing the original background  image of the nebula.

I started sketching a vague outline in white so that it would show up nicely, and a concept for the spaceship started to form. I thought that with such a beautiful backdrop the brave adventurers aboard the spaceship would like to be able to get a good look outside, so I added, not one, but two observation decks to the top of my design.

    solidified

Then I just kept going, adding shapes to the spaceship’s hull.

I also worked on the starscape. Adding layers of black to the darker areas and turning down the opacity so the structure can still be seen. I did the same to the nebula, adding washes of pink and orange at half transparency to take away some grainyness without destroying all the structure.

    more greebles

Now it was time to add the greebles. This is a process of doodling in details, like airlocks, windows and other less identifiable hatches, wires, pipes and plates to the surface of the spaceship.

This was all done freehand with some quite rough edged shapes being sketched in on the graphics tablet.

The final step – for now – was to make these greebles more regular by going over them one more time, but this time holding down the shift key quite often to turn use only straight lines drawn between two points. I cropped the picture down to make the spaceship bigger, and I was done.

In this tutorial, I show you a few basics of Blender 2.5, and cover how to use the box-modeling technique to create a full character. The box-modeling technique is a good way to quickly visualize the shape of your character, rather than a creating the detail from the beginning.

    artist: Konrad Haenel (MARCREA)

For Click Marketing+Design we animated a very short intro using a Rubik's Cube as a link to the concept of "clicking".

Click approached us based on a previous work with a Rubik's Cube we did for the Biokon bionics-research-network here in Germany.

The whole animation was done in Blender and rendered at full 1080p HD for use in future marketing materials. Currently you can see it in action at their website: clickwithus.ca
