this is a small tut about using the new harmonic force, hope you will find it usefull.
Lets create a simple yet cool particle scene with the new enhancement to the harmonic force
First create a plane emitter, with zero world gravity and around 500 particles emitted at the same
time in frame 0 with zero initial [...]

A looong time ago, I promised to make the “film look” compositing network that I use available once Soft Light mix mode was in trunk, as the effect depends upon it heavily and irreplacably. That time came a couple of months ago, and I just remembered to follow up.

The effect is created from an old tutorial I had found on some kid’s website for adding a film style look to his digital photography in Photoshop. I re-purposed the decently complicated Photoshop layer-based work flow into a nodes-based one for Blender. I went looking for that original one, so I could link and credit, but I’ve been unable to find it since that one lucky strike a couple of years ago. To be fair then, the general theory behind this technique isn’t my own, although I added and adjusted a bit while I was nodifying the process. As a reminder, the results are:

You adjust the way that the shadows, highlights and midtones cast by changing the colors in the RGB color node, and in the Color Ramp node. If you’re going to use this, make sure to set the render dimensions to match the dimensions of your input image.
For those of you that look for news about Blender 3d 2.50 developments, something new was added to the SVN and will probably be included on the next test release. So...it is possible now to create a screencast from within Blender by just pressing Alt+f3, and I've been toying with it a bit. Here's a 3 minutes video I did while sculpting (new sculpting and multires is awesome, btw):

Still a lot of work to do. I've reused the base mesh I've created for a previous creature, and added a few more polygons in the head, however, I've should have added more detail to it before adding the multiresolution modifier.
While sculpting, the interface showed there were almost 7 million faces in the scene, but, when I've tried to render the scene, the renderer showed about 2 million faces more. I'm not really sure why this happens. Anyway, rendering at this subdivision level is impossible right now, since my computer runs out of RAM if I try. So, I'll probably only be able to show screen captures of this until I either get more RAM or the texture baking features are put back in.
This was my entry for Blender Artists Weekend Challenge # 366 ("Cartoons" theme). About this silly image: All their lives the balloon people looked up to the moon and revered it, thinking it was the biggest and most beautiful balloon they ever had seen. Some balloons decided to go up to see it more clearly. As they flew higher, they came to realize the moon was no balloon. And so they floated out to the edge of Earth's atmosphere, unable to stop themselves yet catching a glimpse of the glorious universe before an event now known among the balloon people back on Earth (who still believe the moon is a balloon) as The Dreadful Deflating... :-) [As always, Blender internal render].
This week me and my team are going to be very busy as our Drama theater festival is going from 23.12.2009 to 27.12.2009. My students are also performing Bharatanatyam on stage.. I am very exited. All are new students. Various drama written by KUVEMPU will be performed each day by various theater groups in and around bangalore and karnataka. Will be posting my 3d related work after this program has been finished.
