    Blender 3D Architect - 2009-12-23 19:45:07

From all predictions about the future of architectural visualization, one of them is becoming a reality right now, and it’s the adoption of realtime rendering technology to make presentations and develop projects side by side with clients. A realtime render engine os designed to help on the development, and not produce photo real images for [...] Related posts:

  • Smelly Asian Fruits, Book and Blender Teacher needed in Montréal
    Montage Studio - 2009-12-23 15:01:30

    Hey people, JS here,

well how to say. eh! I’ve been picked to be part of the Durian team! Now two third of the montagestudio team is working on Durian, quite funny if you ask me! :D
I’ll be leaving Montréal, Canada on January 23rd and stay there until the project is done in June.

This has a lot of impact on my current life. But here’s a few thing I want to share with you.

First, Packt publishing was kind enough to send me a copy of their book ‘Blender 3d Incredible Machines’. Due to some intense overtime work at the studio I work on, I couldn’t get to read and review it. And now with all the stuff I need to finish and prepare before leaving to Amsterdam, I won’t have time to give this book the proper time it deserve. So I suggest all of you to give it a look with this free sample Chapter. The book looks like a great ressource, especially about the external renderers: http://www.packtpub.com/files/7467-blender-3d-incredible-machines-sample-chapter-6-steampunk-spacecraft.pdf
And here’s a link to the book itself: http://www.packtpub.com/blender-3d-2-49-incredible-machines/book

Finally, I had to cancel Blender courses I was giving at the Society of technological Arts in Montréal. If anyone living in the area that are willing to make some money and share their Blender Knowledge. I think they would greatly appreciate a new teacher there. No need to be a complete master of Blender, since the classes are really just introduction to the software. If you are interested, please email the ‘transform’ department on the Society of technological art website (here: transform@weber.sat.qc.ca )

    Merry holidays everyone :)

It looks like the extra resources from the Dutch Film Fund are already kicking in – Jean-Sebastien Guillemette [X-warrior] will be joining Durian at the end of January. Excellent!

jsguillemetteWe are all very happy to announce we’ll get another Blender artist to work in Amsterdam! Jean-Sebastien is well known in the Blender community as X-warrior, posting amazing graphics and animations already for years. His expertise in managing complex and big environments are going to be very welcome here.

JS will finish his current work in Montreal first, and flies in the weekend of january 23rd 2010.

Let me also wish everyone on the blog a Merry Christmas! Things slow down here now a bit, with only the Aussies staying over during the holidays. Oh, and me! We’ll do an indoor barbie or so! :)

    Laters,

  • Work in Progress December 2009
    processdiary.com - 2009-12-23 13:00:00

Welcome to the final Work in Progress for 2009! I managed to release this on Xmas Eve, as a small Xmas gift to you.

In this video, I continue the concept sketching of Tholemo, right up until the point of drafting a front and side image to use as a template for 3D modeling.

In related news, I took some time out of my schedule and sketched Minauld Wallace for Lora Innes of The Comic Creator's Alliance

She is asking for artist submissions for a worthy cause: stop world slavery. All artwork submitted will be part of a wallpaper, which will be made available o those who donate to the cause. All details are there on her website.

Some sketches showing the process to making this image - as well as two more images - can be seen in this gallery.

Speaking of giving in the spirit of Xmas, Tom Dell'Aringa is also offering his "Out of Orbit" publication as a free pdf to the unemployed.

I got my hands on a print copy of Tom's book:

I'm hoping that in future, more authors like Tom will make a free alternative available, perhaps along the lines of Cory Doctorow for instance, who sets up folks who wish to buy his books but prefer the pdf downloads, with libraries, half-way houses, and the like to receive a bought print edition of the same book from the fan.

Some other books I treated myself with this season were:

High Moon by David Gallaher - you might recall our interview back in March '08
The Skillful Huntsman was recommended to me by Chris Oatley.

In the spirit of giving, my small gift to you is just a few lines away. I've made the video available in full-quality HD for you to download if you have the bandwidth and enjoy the higher quality.

Happy holidays, everyone. I'll be back in the New Year!

    Cheers,

    Paul C

    BlenderNation - 2009-12-23 09:21:41

BlenderVideos is a new website that collects, well, Blender videos. There’s already a lot of material available and they have high ambitions. Nathan John wrote: www.blendervideos.com has been born with collections of videos related to blender 3D which are existing with many videos sharing sites. This website I contribute to the blender artists and enthusiastic. currently I [...]
  • Zaar Update 4
    Arkavision - 2009-12-23 08:24:52

I’ve decided to continue the Zaar character modeling project.  I considered making it part of the Spaceboy project, but the styles are a bit different and they wouldn’t go well together.  I haven’t done anything new to it recently, though I forgot to post the latest work here.  I modeled the teeth and improved the nose, among other things.

  • Spaceboy Progress Report
    Arkavision - 2009-12-23 07:32:51

Yesterday I designed the first space ship you’ll see in the short film.  It’s quite a bit bigger and more angular than the one Eugene will pilot.  It’s sharp edges and vertical front end makes it look sinister, like a cross between the Star Destroyer and the Event Horizon.  The ship itself doesn’t have a name yet, but its project name is Abductorship.

I have also turned a scene near the beginning of the short film into an animatic – or at least a small section of the animatic, about 13 seconds long.  There’s very little to see, so I won’t show it yet, but I’m experimenting with a work flow by making it.  Basically I’m skipping out on writing the script.  I’ve written the full story for this short film (which is to be part one of a short episodic series), and I’m going directly from that to storyboard and animatic.  Additionally I’m putting together the animatic at the same time I make the storyboard in an effort to keep myself interested in this project.

  • Spring Internships at the “Nerdodrome”
    Tube - Epic Production Notes - 2009-12-23 03:44:19

Calling all students (18+) and recent graduates:

Applications are open to join Bassam and his crew for Spring internships, hosted by the very cool Bit Films Incubator Program at Hampshire College, Massachusetts.

Helmed by Chris Perry, formerly of Pixar and Rhythm & Hues, the program draws together a number of interesting projects and a lot of talent, so although the internships are unpaid, it promises to be a very stimulating and fruitful space.

The internship period runs from January 25 through May 14. Please note that applications are due (via email) no later than Monday, January 4 at 5pm (EST).

More information at Bit Films. Still have questions? Comment!

There’s a new sculpting program being developed!  It’s a one-man project and it’s still in its early stages, but it looks really promising.  I downloaded the binary to test it myself – it’d be nice to have an alternative to paying for ZBrush or Mudbox.  Here are links to both the Blenderartists thread and the [...]
