  • New More Ambitious 3D Blender Animation
    Starbright Illustrations (blog) - 2009-09-03 19:29:57

drawn with a pencil, old school!

I am itching to take my Blender animation skills to the next step, and as you can see from the illustration above I’m going to do it properly this time, with a storyboard and everything.

There are a bunch of things I want to better in this animation, compared with the first 3D animation I did with Blender. The first animation is set in a sort of virtual studio made up from a few rudimentary mesh planes as walls, but this time I want to create a groovy looking 3D environment with convincing looking grass.

The text on the first animation was a bit rough and ready too, so this time I want to create an animation with some graphically pleasing text and perhaps even a logo. I also want to have two animated mesh characters, so that there’s some interaction in the movie.

And there are a million niggling little other improvements I’ve suddenly decided not to bore all the readers of this blog with. Poor dedicated fools, they deserve some consideration.

In my last post I mentioned a book about animation that I planned to download from this page of cool Blender links, but the link didn’t work. I did however track the book down on Scribd, I wonder how legal the copy there is, but it turned out to be old school Disney animation. I thought it was going to be all shiny modern digital Pixar type Disney animation, oops. Needless to say I’ve kind of lost interest in it and I’m on to the next thing.

I mentioned before that I want grass in my next animation and one link on the resources page leads to some presets for Blender particles and it includes grass. Cool!

    BlenderNation - 2009-09-03 17:00:11

Blender 3D Architect (Allan Brito) pointed me to an interesting tutorial on Yafaray.org on a generic Blender scene which creates great looking studio lighting with Yafaray. • Call for Content Blenderart #24
    BlenderArt Magazine - 2009-09-03 16:59:59

It’s time again to start thinking about articles, tutorials and images for Issue # 24 of Blenderart Magazine.

The theme for this issue is “From Out of the Deep…”.

Part of the fun of being a 3d artist is getting to create things out of your imagination. And since little is actually know about the deeps of the oceans and seas, it provides a great environment for creative endeavors. It is also provides a challenging environment to light properly and apply believable underwater caustics.

So let’s fire up our imaginations and blender and create some amazing “From Out of the Deep…” projects. And don’t forget to share what you have created with us.

    We are looking for:

Images, Animations & Games that contain or feature:

    • Sea creatures
      • scary/dangerous
      • cute, exotic
      • fictional, realistic
    • Underwater Scenes/Environments
      • caves, coral reefs, plant life
      • Underwater cities / sunken ships

Also wanted, great shaders, materials and node setups for great looking materials and effects.

    Articles

Send in your articles to sandra
Subject: “Article submission Issue # 24 [your article name]”

    Author guidelines are available here.

    Gallery Images

As usual you can also submit your best renders based on the theme of the issue. As the theme of this issue is “From Out of the Deep…”, we are looking for underwater type images that show creatures, plant life and other oddities often found in the deep. Please note if the entry does not match with the theme it will not be published.

Send in your entries for gallery to gaurav
Subject: “Gallery submission Issue # 24″

Note: Image size should be of 1024x (width) at max.

Last date of submissions October 5, 2009.

    Good luck!

  • Video Tutorial: Enhanced Reflections with HDR Images
Blender Newbies 3D Video Tutorials (Learn to Create 3D Graphics with Blender!) - 2009-09-03 15:16:00

Hello, in this Blender tutorial, we’ll take a look at how to enhance your reflections by using High Dynamic Range Images.

    You'll learn how to
    • map an image to your material's reflection channel to serve as a faked reflection
    • map an HDR image to the World's texture space to simulate an environment for your reflective materials
    • control the visibility, in the render, of the texture that's mapped to the World's texture space
    • and more...

Check out the tutorial, hosted by BlenderCookie.com.
