Pumpjack-Setup: Using Constraints in Blender 2.5

    Hey!
After reading a question on the CGTalk-Forums about how to setup a Pumpjack-System in Blender, I decided to do a quick tutorial on that.
Oh btw., this is my first Blender 2.5 tutorial! Yay!

    Creating an Axe Part 2 | BlenderCookie.com

In this follow up tutorial to the Axe Modeling tutorial, we go through the steps to begin texturing the axe with some simple textures. The tutorial covers UV mapping, basic image texturing, AO baking, render textures, and more.

One or more textures on this 3D model have been created with images from CGTextures.com. These images may not be redistributed by default, please visit cgtextures.com for more information.

  • crappy renders
    thisroomthatikeep - 2010-01-22 19:58:00

I already knew that my renders suck, but, now, there's The List to confirm my suspicions. All my renders are test renders, so, according to point #6, they all suck. Oh well...I knew that already, and I don't seem to care that much...I'll never become an artist this way though :(

So, even though there are some images below this text. Don't waste your time, there's nothing to see here, move on...

I should stop sculpting heads and try something different, but, since BlendingLife 2 seems to be close, I'm assuming I'll keep the heads going for a while. I'd like to finish my entry this time.
  • How to animate a 360° rotation of an armature bone
    Oenvoyage's Blender Blog - 2010-01-22 15:01:57

Have you ever tried to animate a bone making a complete turn in a regular rotations? This is the curves of a bone rotating 360° during 20 frames.

I took a picture of my daughter riding her tricycle but quality was so bad I decided to turn it into a painting. Here it is. Done in Gimp.

  • Library Linking & Asset Management
    Durian Open Movie Project - 2010-01-22 14:30:32

At the studio we have to be able to maintain and work collaboratively with a large number of files. For those who are interested, I made a little tour of the system we have set up as well as the process within Blender to link in groups from other .blend files.

Word of caution: when working with files that reference other files, be *very* careful with filenames and filepaths! Moving files around or renaming things can result in quite a headache.

Edit: Here’s a link to Blender-aid, the content management tool for Blender I mentioned in the video.

    malefico's spot - 2010-01-22 14:14:13

If you don’t know me, I am a motorcycle nut, and enjoy taking a ride out along some nice twisteeez, or lugging camping gear and all for a week trip out into the world. But as a CG artist I actually have never modeled a motorcycle and that bothers me. So I was prepping to [...]

  • Unity 3D game publishing
    Elvis Alistar's Blog - 2010-01-22 12:19:27

The first complete 3D game that I (along with another 4 students) created entirely using the Unity game engine is called Escape from Planet Zombie. Now, this game was created as a semester project for a Game Design course. It is a complete game, though we are still working on tweaking some parameters to make [...]

  • PDC Exporter (ICE to Maya)
    digital janitor - 2010-01-22 08:45:00

According to this "article" you can transfer cache data from Softimage ICE to Maya Particles. While that it true, you also need to know what fps you are working with. And the PDC exporter in Softimage is hardcoded to work if Maya is playing with 24FPS.

    Article:
    http://www.the-area.com/blogs/marks/video_tutorial_getting_ice_particles_into_maya

Also another little thing. Softimage QA rarely test their things on linux, if that had done so they would soon realize that Linux system are case sensitive. I keep telling them this, but they don't listen. So it creates cache files with and extension that is written with capital letters, and not lowercase which Maya needs.

So I recompiled it to suite PAL (25fps). Only for Linux64 though

If there is demand I can make a NTCS one too.

    BlenderNation - 2010-01-22 07:12:33

Andrew Price of blenderguru.com writes: I’ve just posted an article on ‘10 Reasons Why Your Render Sucks’; it’s a little bit tongue in cheek, and something I may cop some flak for but I thought it needed to be said ;). Andrew makes some excellent points, and while you may not agree with all of them, they are well [...]
  • Colour Correction Composite Nodes
    BlenderNation - 2010-01-22 05:39:50

Matt Ebb has recently done a lot of work on composite nodes resulting in two new nodes: ‘Colour Balance’ and ‘Hue Correct’ These two nodes are great for colour grading your image, to make it nicer or easier to match your render to a live action element, usually by matching the blacks and whites along with the saturation of [...]

    ThruDreamsgate's Blog - 2010-01-22 04:52:54

From the unusual and sometimes downright bizarre creative mind of yours truly, springs a most unlikely superhero. Influenced by a recent obsession with blender video tutorials, my odd little guy seems to have sprung from and be the result of several totally unrelated videos that I have watched over the last few months. I didn’t [...]
