Some of you may know that I applied to Cal Arts. Well, after reviewing my finances I’ve decided to pull my application. Since neither I or my parents have any good credit to speak of (and in my case, no credit at all), non-federally guaranteed loans are out of the question.
I will have to continue to teach myself, while also continuing my attendance at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. The school I go to is not a bad school, it’s just a standard school. In Arkansas, there isn’t animation industry to speak of, and schools tend to cater to their immediate areas… they also get brownie points from local governments if they can keep their graduates within the state.
So, what I will do is continue my education here, and graduate. Any degree is better than none.
While I’m doing that, I’ll also be working on a short film. I know I keep saying that. I know I’m always working on a short film… And I know I never finish. But now things are different. Now I know I need to finish something. If I don’t, then I will indeed be remaining in this state, fixing computers for a living instead of doing what I really want to do.
Attached to this post is a sketch for the new short film idea. The film will be about a young woman who discovers she is a weapon.
So! Not to be presumptuous, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume that if you're reading this update, you've also already seen the new Multiply Teaser! If not... you should check it out! The response so far has been pretty darn good. In the words of my cousin Josh Breen sitting next to me, "It's no Willy Bear, but it will do".
I can't say how excited I am to finally be entering this stage of the whole process. The "Release" stage. At least, ramping up to it. We're still working on final picture lock and such, but we're really close. Phil and Nathan gave me their notes on the entire film this last Sunday, and now I'm working quick on implementing 'em.
On another note, I just bought a pizza for $1.59 at an AM/PM. I expected a pretty bad pizza, and my expectations were met perfectly. It is the worst pizza I've ever eaten in my life. It's probably been on the warming rack for a couple months. It's like a flaky cracker covered in gray cheese with even grayer pepperoni.
I have msot of the edit mode (for mesh) and object mode buttons in blender 2.5 alpha 2:
while making this i have nottest that some keys seem over used (eg the 's' key) and others like '[' ']' '\' '/' '`' 'k' 'y' 'j' 'v' 'x' ';'
there are also some conflicting keys, such as shift+f is fly mode, (which should work in both edit and object) however since shift+f is mesh fill (fly mode doesn't work in edit mode without changing the shortcuts)
please leave your comments, on other conflicts you have found, allso on how i might best depict the diffident content on the keyboard?
I spotted this news on the Durian blog about another “Community Sprint”. The last sprint was a lot of fun with over 300 participants on the IRC so check it out! This is your chance to possibly get your modeled character or animation in the movie.
“Heeeeyyyy guys!

Here is another fresh batch of 3D hotness across the interweb fresh out of the oven. This is not software specific, but meant to serve as an inspiration to the rest of us. Every week or So we are going to try and post a “batch” of things that catches our eye. We are [...]
Welp, the modeling sprint we had last month was pretty awesome. Even well after the sprint had officially closed, models continued to flow into BlendSwap. There’s a total of 29 pages worth of models in the Durian category, and they’ve already been a great help!
During the last sprint we discussed briefly doing another, with a different focus. As it so happens, we need some help with character modeling and animation for our market scene. We need tons of background characters!
Here’s a stupid video we threw together talking about it a little bit:
So to recap in text, this will be a two-part sprint for modeling and animation. We will supply a few rigs to be animated. The actions that are animated will be able to be applied to a variety of characters. So if you animate Sintel like a weak old man, we can take the old man model that someone else makes and just give him that animation.
Before the Sprint we will post a document with more details about the actual *content* we’re looking for, with model sketches, a list of actions, models you can download, a few screenshots and a description of the scene. Also more details about how it’s gonna work.
Again, we will be meeting in the #blenderdurian IRC channel on the FreeNode network, on Saturday, March 27th, between 1-2:00pm GMT+1 (Amsterdam), 12:00-1:00pm GMT. (Refer to Getting Started in Blender IRC if you’re not familiar with irc.) We’ll be in and out of the chat all weekend.
Sorry this is a bit more last-minute, but hopefully we’ll still get a decent turnout! Looking forward to it.
The use of video references is an invaluable thing to better understand the nature of movements, allowing us to create more interesting animations. It is pretty common to record ourselves to use references of facial expressions and gestures.
