  • “The Lodge” Contract Work
    Arkavision - 2010-04-06 22:06:11

I’ve been contracted by a independent film maker to produce, texture, and rig a couple creature models.  His name is Dylon Kiker, and the film is called “The Lodge”.  You can learn more about it at their website – http://www.wix.com/surgex78/the-lodge

Here is the first model, untextured so far.

Although the first model is still untextured, I am about to begin work on the second creature model. Updates are posted in the CGTalk work in progress section, but I may also post them in Blender Artists. So far here is a link to the existing thread.

Dylon was so pleased with my work so far that he wrote a testimonial for me, which is viewable in the new Testimonials section.

  • Silo 2.2 Beta
    Arkavision - 2010-04-06 21:47:28

Nevercenter is releasing betas for Silo 2.2 for use by people with existing license.  I tested the new beta (released April 1st of all dates), and it does appear to be more stable than 2.1.1.

  • Free courseware: Green architecture and energy analysis
    Blender 3D Architect - 2010-04-06 20:28:49

The demand for projects that follow the guidelines of a more green architecture and carbon free buildings, it`s becoming even more important to have a basis on techniques and tools for green design and energy analysis. Last week I was browsing around the web when I just found a free courseware on how to run [...] Related posts:

  • Fluid Particle Documentation soon
    Tinker Code - 2010-04-06 15:19:49

First of all I’m very glad the fluid particle core is now committed thanks to Jahka and also he has fixed the moving emitter object bug, but aside of that there’s no other bug. Unstable simulations are not bugs but limitations of the current solver (and actually limitations of the SPH theory, it is not [...]
  • Keeping an eye on the competition
Sintel, the Durian Open Movie Project - 2010-04-06 15:16:26

A while ago, something strange happened while working on Sintel. A trailer was released for a movie called How to Train Your Dragon, with a very similar theme to what we’re working with. Strange how that happens, eh? I guess dragons are just the ‘in’ thing these days. Apparently we are at the mercy of trends too.

Anyway, the film was recently released here in the Netherlands, and so we went to watch it in IMAX 3D. Admittedly, we were actually blown away by its awesomeness. Crikey! These facial expressions sum up our reactions to the film – a mix between being awed and scared at the same time.

  • rm *
    Virgilio Vasconcelos - Animation - 2010-04-06 15:00:23

If you ever used Linux (or a Unix like OS), you probably know that the command rm * erases EVERYTHING. rm -Rf * is even worse. Now think of the damage it can cause in the folder of production files from a movie like... Toy Story 2!?!

  • Tip: Creating a Simple Studio Backdrop
    Blender Cookie - 2010-04-06 02:33:22

This quick Blender 2.5 video tip shows how to make a simple drop-cloth effect like those you see photographers often use as their backgrounds to display products, etc.. The tip also demonstrates how to make the drop cloth follow the camera’s rotation.
