  • Hand Turkey in the 2010 48 Hour Film Project
    Hand Turkey Studios - 2010-08-01 21:43:08

Two weeks ago, Hand Turkey Studios participated in the Richmond 48 Hour Film Project for the 3rd year in a row. This year was a magnificent success! We had a 30-member team of talented artists help produce our entry, Grey Justice: Puncher of Men. And yes, we made an animation… again. Have a look below to see our short in all of its beautifully animated glory!

Last weekend, Grey Justice was screened at the Byrd Theatre with the other competing entries. With the ‘Best of Richmond’ screening held this weekend, we’re proud to announce that our work was recognized by winning two (TWO!) awards: Best Use of Character and Best Special Effects. Woohoo!

Andrew Price - aka: the Blender Guru - takes some time out to talk to me about his passion for Blender, marketing an eBook, and his surprising journey from debt collector at Toyota to successful online tutor. A pretty amazing story which I'm sure many of you will enjoy.

  • Blender - MeshPaint
    4RTE DIGIT4L - 2010-08-01 17:01:00

Confira abaixo alguns exemplos:

  • Mesh Paint progress update
    MiikaHweb blog feed - 2010-08-01 10:56:34

During the last week I added mesh paint properly to Blender source (my previous implementation was just a bunch of edited modifiers :p) and added user interface elements. I think that was one of the hardest parts of this whole project. Just browsing through Blender source trying to figure out how to add new modifiers, operator buttons etc. :)

I also did some optimizations and improvements on base code and added some new features.

    Particle painting is now finished:

Then I added sub steps to allow solid results even with fast moving objects:

I'm soon about to finish displacement painting as well.
  • Corrections and Explanations
    BlenderArt Magazine - 2010-08-01 04:51:20

Issue #28 had a few issues that needed to be corrected, one being that we printed the wrong bio information under the wrong writer. This and a few other things have now been corrected and a new version has been loaded to our site. The mirrors should be updated within a few days as well.

We have had a few complaints about messed up formatting in Issue #25. So I had Gaurav generate a new pdf for that issue as well. It has now been corrected and uploaded to our site. Like Issue #28, the mirrors should be updated within a few days as well.

And now for an explanation of our recent website problems. During the release of the last two issues of Blenderart Magazine, we have experienced rather annoying site outages. Something that had not plagued us up to this point.

Oddly enough, after investigation by Nam, this is not a bandwidth problem. But a problem with the number of site hits at once. Apparently our ISP is under the mistaken impression that we are being attacked and shuts down our site. And the number that trips it is not even that outrageous. We are talking about 65 “hits” at once. Seems like a pretty small attack to me. :P

We thought we had it fixed after the first time it happened, the second time wasn’t as bad as the first. But it still happened. So Nam and I have been discussing ways to lessen the chances of it happening again. When issue #29 releases, we will just have to see how it goes.

I guess this is the price of being popular. :P
