  • Copy Attributes Script update
    Tube - Epic Production Notes - 2010-09-14 17:47:52

The old copy menu script got some love lately, works fine in beta 2.54, solves some bugs, gets pep8 compliant and its own wiki page:

    Wiki
    Download

It has a few options not available from the buttons (e.g. copying pose bone visual transforms) and provides the comforts of 2.4ish interaction ;)

Quick edit: the script is now in trunk and contains edit mode functionality, updated the url accordingly…

  • Create an Animated Flag
    Blender Guru - 2010-09-14 15:04:48

Many years ago, if you mentioned the word ‘fabric’ to a 3d artist you would have seen visible signs of nervousness. Just the thought of all that moving mesh was enough to make anyone’s stomach churn. But in 2006 the cloth simulator was born, allowing even the most amateur artist to create realistic cloth physics at the press of a button.

Like me! In 2009 I used this very feature to create the final shot in my short film The Ballad of the M4 Carbine. I’ve since received countless emails from people asking me how I did this so I thought I’d finally get around to creating a tutorial ;)

    The finished result:

Hear that? That’s raw patriotism right there…

In this tutorial I’ll be walking you through the basics of cloth simulation and how to use it to create an animated waving flag. If you’re a freelancer this type of job is bound to crop up from one time or another, so it’s a good trick to have under your belt.

In this tutorial you will discover how to:

    • Create your first cloth simulation
    • Tweak cloth settings to produce realistic results
    • ‘Pin’ a portion of cloth
    • UV unwrap an image onto cloth
    • Setup a wind object with randomized patterns

[NOTE: This tutorial uses Blender 2.54 Beta. Download it here.]

  • It’s phenomenal!
Sintel, the Durian Open Movie Project - 2010-09-14 13:28:15

We’re just back from the final-final-final 35mm scope screening with dolby digital, and I’m still glowing from pride, excitement and emotion. All pieces have fallen together, and with Jan’s soundtrack this is truly incredible good stuff!

So much thanks to everyone – also to you reader – and so much gratitude for all the great work I’ve witnessed in the past year! <sob!>

The online release date has to be finalized yet, but aim is before or on October 1st. DVDs then should also being printed, and ship 1-2 weeks after. Stay tuned :)

  • Dynamic Paint
    Blender Labrat - 2010-09-14 11:04:00

Earlier today MiikaH releasaed a beta version of what is now known as dynamic paint (formally mesh paint), this system basiclly allows you to bake object/particle/smoke/etc interactions to a texture. like a the wetness a fluid leaves behind after flowing over an object.

Now this is system is extreamly nice, with various effects liek drips and erasing. The workflow of using it is very nicely done, really same workflow as fluid, designate a canvas, designate a painter set output paths and away you go :) , my only gripe is it controls the UI when baking like smoke, I would like it to be like fluid so you can playback and still see where its up to.

So moving on, i have been following this for a while and had a real nice play with it today and the results are below :)

I hope you all try out the patch (if you can) its amazing and extremely useful :)

    see ya's later
