  • Citizen Exclusive Series: Modeling a High Poly Car – part 05
    Blender Cookie - 2012-01-21 23:43:17

    blender_citizen_series_highpoly_car_part05_feature

Welcome to another Citizen Friday, err Saturday.. Each Friday we are working to produce Citizen content. If you’re not a Citizen, no worries and no need to draw a picture of a monster eating sheep. This isn’t affecting the amount of free tutorials/content to hit the site on a weekly basis. Basically we are just working harder. Of course you are welcome to sign-up today to get access to this exclusive and many more.

Hello and welcome to this Citizen Exclusive series! This series will be covering the entire process of modeling a very detailed, high-poly car in Blender 2.6x. Throughout this series you’ll learn everything you need to know about modeling cars with an edge-by-edge method that focus very heavily on creating clean topology that not only results in a good mesh, it also results in a car model that renders far more realistically.

Part 05 of this series starts to move ever closer to the polish stage by adding a Subdivision surface modifier and beginning the clean detail work.

  • auto rig post at BN!
    Tube - Epic Production Notes - 2012-01-21 22:23:26

Looks like Tal’s preview of the autowalking got posted at BN! Nice post!

This blog has been a little quiet of late but the project is quite healthy. We’ve been working hard on animation and refining our modelling pipeline to allow modellers an easier time contributing to the project. Tal and I have nailed down most of our technical hurdles in the autowalker/crowd side, which is a huge relief (those shots were always a bit of a scary looming task) and we think we can finish these shots with a great deal of fun.

stay tuned for more posts, where we share our current progress… and some news!

  • More Physics
    Mango - Open Movie project - 2012-01-21 16:45:01

    Here’s a quick follow-up post on physics.

I’ve spent a lot of time doing various rigid body and smoke tests, just to get comfortable with physics in Blender.

I also tried to stress test the tools by using large amounts of active rigid body objects. That last clip with the round church tower collapsing consists of just bellow 10 000 active objects simulated by Bullet via the game engine. Both Bullet and Blender handled that many objects surprisingly well!
