  • Spring internships posted!
    Tube - Epic Production Notes - 2012-01-22 23:13:03

Hey folks, a bit late on this one, but Spring internships have been posted on bitfilms. If you are interested in spending in spending a few months working on lighting, modelling, crowd sims/other simulation or animation (or a combination of the above) have a gander at the doc and send your resume/reel/cover letter in! we’d love to have you on the project.

Good news for the modellers, btw, is that we’ve been tuning/tightening our modelling pipeline. I intend to post on that in a week or two once I’ve formalized the last details, so it should be easier and smoother to get your modelling chops into final shots.

I promise my next post won’t have an exclamation point on the end ;)

  • Weekly progress
    Morevna Project - 2012-01-22 13:57:56

This week we were busy updating demo shots for the new battlefield concept. Currently we have updated all shots in the range of 01-16, and hey – it looks quite nice!

    Shot 06

    Shot 09

    Shot 14

At the same time Nikolay does tracing and animation based on the keyframe drafts by Eleonora.

And of course the process of updating shots for Blender 2.61 is continued. At the moment the most issues are resolved and we need just some time to complete the transition process for all shots. It was a little distracting when I haven’t found possibility to control animation time with F-Curves like I did in 2.49. After spending some time digging I have realized that I can use Synfig to do time-control effects (like slow-mo or speedup).

Also, I was a little worried about the first shots in the demo – the view from the top at the start is a really tricky shot. But after reworking sequence layout I was able to achieve the impact I was satisfied with.

That’s all for today, have a great week!

  • The Jinn Project Trailer [HD]
    Vimeo / Blender 3D - 2012-01-22 13:27:09

The Jinn Project - iPhone App!
Promo made in Blender 2.60 Beta

Welcome to The Jinn Project - a fully functional app dedicated to providing practical information, advice and guidance on the world of the Jinn, evil eye, possession, magic and ruqyah.

Ruqyah could be classed as Islamic spiritual healing using the words of the Qur'an and supplications recommended by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Muslims believe that there is a spirit world - much like our world - which is filled with good and bad. It is within this world that Muslims believe much of the occult takes place (i.e magic, possession etc). The use of ruqyah (particularly the Holy Qur'an) is a means of curing and combating such forces.

  • Patch and Bug Tracker Triage...
    Aligorith's Lair - 2012-01-22 10:47:00

I've been doing a bit of a sweep of the bug and patch trackers today. It's been a while since I've gotten around to working on these things, with various distractions, projects, and deadlines in the way. There are perhaps two main news items that will be of interest to readers of this blog:

    1) scuey's patch for "Drag-N-Drop Parenting in the Outliner" is now in trunk!

This patch makes it possible to use drag and drop to parent and unparent objects in the Outliner.

While I do have some reservations about drag and drop in general, especially since it is often done so badly so often, this patch and the Blender-flavoured implementation of this technique are quite nice.

Congrats to scuey for getting his second (?) patch into SVN!

    2) NLA Editor - Ability to enter Tweak Mode on strips across multiple objects at the same time
Sometimes it is necessary to be able to enter Tweak Mode on multiple NLA strips (each from a different object) to edit the keyframes of all these objects relative to each other.

It is now possible to do this again. Previously it was possible for a while until fixes for a number of bad bugs ended up disabling the accidental functionality.
  • Timelapse: Modelling a Mouth
    BlenderNation - 2012-01-22 06:00:50

By Eugenio Pignataro (Oscurart).  Eugenio writes: The inside of the mouth is always boring for modeling. This video shows a combination of tools for this process. A mix of sculpture and polygon to...

  • Fluid Sim Time Animation Restored
    Aligorith's Lair - 2012-01-22 03:50:00

After much pestering from ZanQdo, I've finally spent the morning (and part of last night) hacking the fluid sim to restore the ability to freeze and/or speed up fluid sims (aka the old "Fac-Tim" setting).

Just use the "Speed" setting (shown keyframed) to do this. Enjoy!
  • Vídeos da BlenderPRO 2011
    Dalai Felinto - 2012-01-22 01:11:48

Acabei de rever minha apresentação e me trouxe boas lembranças.

    Dalai
